Summer Fruit is on its Way!
I love this time of year when fresh summer fruit begins to make its way to the markets. My mother always had plenty of fruit in our home to snack on and have available to us anytime we wanted a piece.
Growing up in central California, fresh fruit was always in abundance. As a kid, we would sit in my Aunts apricot trees for what seemed like hours, and eat the fruit right off the tree. It was glorious, and I never did get the stomach ache that my Mom and Aunt said we were going to get!
Remember, fruit is packed full of healthy nutrients and antioxidants (see blog on antioxidants), to support our immune systems and give us quick energy. Fruit makes for a great snack, and is a healthier alternative to sugary deserts.
Some of the fruits that will be available are;
Grapes, about a handful (approximately 100 grams) has 50
calories
Apricot, a single piece has 30 calories
Cantaloupe slice (approx, 130 grams) has 25 calories
Plum, single piece has 25 calories
Honeydew slice (130 grams) 36 calories
Raspberries have 1 calorie per berry
Strawberries have 2 to 3 calories per berry
Cherries have 2 to 3 calories each
Blueberries have approx. 45 calories per 100 gram serving
So you can see that choosing summer fruit for a snack or desert will be a healthy and low calorie choice. It will also provide you with all of the health benefits of antioxidants and other nutrients to help you look and feel better.
Choose fresh summer fruits for your summer snacks and deserts. If you are on the path to being healthy and fit....this is the choice to make!
Till Monday,
Queenie
