The Healing Power of Animals

Did you know that having an animal for a pet is going to make you healthier? Pets not only give you unconditional love and companionship, they can make physical improvements to your body.

I love animals, and have always had pets in my life. I feel that my home is empty without at least one dog or cat running about. They have given me great love and comfort during my life. The only negative about having a pet is that they don't live long enough. Their lifespan is so much shorter than ours, but the love they give when they are with us is worth the pain of losing them eventually.

There have been many studies on the health benefits of having a pet. Some of these benefits are:

They help to lower blood pressure in their owners.
Pets help to reduce stress in their owners.
They give companionship to many people that live alone.
They provide care for people who have disabilities.
Pets improve conditions for people that are depressed and anxious.
Pets help their owners cope with the loss of a loved one.
They help people going through major life transitions like divorce and job loss.
There is higher survival rates in diseased people who own pets.

Horse therapy has proven to help physically and mentally challenged people.

They improve physical and mental functions for the elderly.

People with dogs tend to be more active.

A Japanese study showed that pet owners had thirty percent fewer doctor visits than those who had no pets

In Britain, some of the prisons encourage the inmates to have pets such as fish, birds, and even cats. They have found profound changes in the inmates attitudes and behavior. Many of the inmates had never felt loved until they took care of a pet. Their ability to give and receive love was a new experience for them.

Some dogs are now known to be able to predict when their owner is about to have a seizure. They will give their owner a warning to give them time to get help.

Animals provide us with so many wonderful things, and all they need is shelter, food, and love in return. They don't care what kind of house you live in, car you drive, or job you have. They love you unconditionally.

You will never feel more loved than by your pet. When you have been gone for the day, your dog will treat you as though they haven't seen you for months. A cat will probably not be as excited to see you, but they have their loving moments too. Nothing better than a cat snuggle with a big purrrr as the background music!

So if you have a pet, give them extra love today for all that they do for you....body, mind, and soul. They are gifts from God for sure!

Till Tomorrow,
Queenie
